A Few of My Favorite Things #4

adorable comics about love

1) www.HJ-Story.com

 Love is...

HJ-story.com is filled cute quirky comics about the artist and his girlfriend (now wife). It's usually renditions of their experiences. Their "Love is..." series shows various aspects of his love.. love is patient... very patient... and at times extremely patient. It just shows the funny of what a person in love can and will endure for the object of their affection. I was especially delighted with the Thor comic. :D Check out the site for inspiration. Very relatable ;)

Proverbs 31 Woman

May I seek to be a Proverbs 31 woman. :)
A Wife of Noble Character
10 Who can find a virtuous and capable wife?
She is more precious than rubies.
11 Her husband can trust her,
and she will greatly enrich his life.
12 She brings him good, not harm,
all the days of her life.

13 She finds wool and flax
and busily spins it.
14 She is like a merchant’s ship,
bringing her food from afar.
15 She gets up before dawn to prepare breakfast for her household
and plan the day’s work for her servant girls.

16 She goes to inspect a field and buys it;
with her earnings she plants a vineyard.
17 She is energetic and strong,
a hard worker.
18 She makes sure her dealings are profitable;
her lamp burns late into the night.

19 Her hands are busy spinning thread,
her fingers twisting fiber.
20 She extends a helping hand to the poor
and opens her arms to the needy.
21 She has no fear of winter for her household,
for everyone has warm clothes.

22 She makes her own bedspreads.
She dresses in fine linen and purple gowns.
23 Her husband is well known at the city gates,
where he sits with the other civic leaders.
24 She makes belted linen garments
and sashes to sell to the merchants.

25 She is clothed with strength and dignity,
and she laughs without fear of the future.
26 When she speaks, her words are wise,
and she gives instructions with kindness.
27 She carefully watches everything in her household
and suffers nothing from laziness.

28 Her children stand and bless her.
Her husband praises her:
29 “There are many virtuous and capable women in the world,
but you surpass them all!”

30 Charm is deceptive, and beauty does not last;
but a woman who fears the LORD will be greatly praised.
31 Reward her for all she has done.
Let her deeds publicly declare her praise.

(Proverbs 31: 10 – 31 NLT)

Robinsons Magnolia Traffic

The long wait...
Ranting...

A few days ago, the family decided to go outside and have dinner together before sending our grandma off to the bus terminal. They decided to eat at Savory in N. Domingo, remembering that there was a Savory inside the Robinson's Magnolia food court I then suggested that we go there instead. We had a good dinner and even shopped a bit since there was a sale on-going. We left around 10:15 PM

The problem started as we headed down toward the basement 2 parking to get into our car. Everyone got in, my dad proceeded to turn on the engine and off we went. But only after a few feet, we had to stop as there was a car in front of us. Little did we know that the stop would last almost 45 minutes.

After the first few minutes we started to look around and saw that there was a long line of cars leading to the exit. We tried to look and see what was keeping the cars from moving. Was there an accident? Did a car break down?

What do you want the most?

Watch and know what Linsanity is all about. :)

"What do you want the most? What is that one thing that you want so bad? Is it getting to the best college? Is it to be the most popular or pretty? Is it to be the best spouse? Is it most success or most money? Really think about it? What is your purpose in life?

Stuff : The Materials Economy

Will more things make you happier?

We want a lot of things and we have a lot of things. I even found out sometimes it is even encouraged by the  government that we should want to buy a lot of things. However at the rate we are consuming and without the proper programs for recycling I learned that we will end up drowning in all our stuff.

I saw a video about this from "The Story of Stuff Project" This is a 20-minute animation of the consumerist society, narrated by Anne Leonard, and she really makes sense. It seems that she has done her research and has practical info to share. Link here.

This video talks about the Materials Economy.

What is the Gospel?

The gospel translates to news that brings joy,
...not just any news...
...news that changes a life forever.

No longer slaves, your free.
The reality is that we are all slaves,
slaves to sin and slaves to death
slaves in need of good news.

Enter Jesus, God's Son
fully God, and fully man.
bringing news that would change
our lives forever

Back in my day

Checking out at the store, the young cashier suggested to the older woman, that she should bring her own grocery bags because plastic bags weren't good for the environment.

The woman apologized and explained, "We didn't have this green thing back in my earlier days."

The young clerk responded, "That's our problem today. Your generation did not care enough to save our environment for future generations."

The woman said:
She was right -- our generation didn't have the green thing in its day.

Back then, we returned milk bottles, soda bottles and beer bottles to the store. The store sent them back to the plant to be washed and sterilized and refilled, so it could use the same bottles over and over. So they really were truely recycled.

But we didn't have the green thing back in our day.

Recycled T-Shirt Bracelet

recycled t-shirt knit bracelet
Time for another D.I.Y project.

My officemate K came up with this idea. She came to me one day and was asking if I'd be interested in making a bracelet for her. She saw the design on Pinterest and thought that I could maybe figure it out and make one for her.  And so the project was on.

These are a few of my favorite things #3

1. Bedazzled Pumps - made by my shobe
1. Bedazzled Pumps- Came home one day to find this pair of pumps in our living room. It looked like something that one of the witches in The Wizard of Oz would wear. Turns out my little sister upcycled a pair of her old black pumps and came up with a pair of these purple showstoppers. ;) Oh, the things she'll do when she's bored.

Magnolia Ice Cream House is open once again! *updated*

As I was looking around the newly opened mall in our area I went out on their third floor veranda enjoying the view. I first I noticed the playful fountains at the left side, the lush green grassy area in the middle, and just at the edge at the right side of the outdoor park area... I couldn't believe what I saw. It was a sight to behold. :)

On Growing Up: Do you feel entitled?

https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10151994565830389&set=p.10151994565830389&type=1&ref=nf
Do you feel entitled?

Do you put yourself first? Do you notice the efforts of people who take care of you? Do you assume people need to listen to you? Do you feel the need to blame others for the misfortune that comes into your life?

I was reading a story on my FB page and reposted it for you to read, hope you enjoy reading it too.

What to do: Aftermath of the Flood

Just reposting tips for cleanup and what to do after the floods. Hope this helps.

AFTER THE FLOOD
http://www.okeechobeeeoc.com/floodtips.htm
  • Test drinking water for potability; wells should be pumped out and the water tested before drinking.
  • Do not use fresh food that has come in contact with flood waters.
  • Restrict children from playing in flooded areas. Hidden sharp objects and open storm drains are safety hazards. If kids do play in standing water, bathe them as soon as possible and watch for signs of infection or disease.

Saizen Daiso August 2012 Sale

http://www.frannywanny.com/2010/08/shopping-challenge-at-saizen.html
Saizen translates to "best choice" in Japan. Offers authentic Daiso Products , fun and funky stationeries, toys, lifestyle items, quality fashion and apparel, home decors, Japanese interiors and ceramics, practical and functional household items, kitchenware, home improvement, gardening tools and pet accessories.

I love this store, as it offers fun & unique items from Japan. They offer quirky, cute, useful knick-knacks for the pinoy household, in Japanese the word would be "Kawaii!" They made buying at their store easy for us by placing the prices of their items at Php 85 or Php 55. When you enter the store for the first time it's a must to start from one end of the store to the other; making sure you pass every aisle, nook, and cranny. You'll be amazed at the surprises that you will find there. I can spend hours just looking around there choosing my armful of things that I want to buy. They have interesting selections on household items and what-nots that you'll ever need in the cutest forms.

Flood Safety and Survival Tips

In light of the recent flood situation in our country I can't help but feel helpless and useless sitting at home, knowing that I am just blogging at the comforts of my home, high and dry. But was cheered up and invigorated after reading Patty Laurel's post of "More Than Just Rain" (excerpt below).

Floods in Manila Aug 7, 2012

The whole of NCR is still in Red Warning. Apart from Metro Manila, various other regions of the Philippines have been in a state of calamity and flooding for the past weeks now. So these pictures only reflect today's flooding in the Metro Manila area.

Whenever it rains...

It's been raining non-stop here in the Philippines today. Stay home and stay safe. Let us epecially pray for those who don't have shelter or are in danger of rising floods.
