Heat Stroke Cause, Symptoms, & Prevention

Heat Stroke Cause, Symptoms, & Prevention

Just the other day a co-worker of mine suffered a case of heat stroke and sad to say, he did not survive :(  We were shocked to hear that even a healthy strong man such as him would be gone only after suffering a bad headache. So our office has just started a heat stroke awareness campaign and found information from a government labor site, it's in Filipino.

Things To Do In A Dog Run

Alo!

I recently joined my first Pet Express Doggie Run 2013 held in MOA and had a blast there with my sister and two doggies. You can read about it here.

I came up with a list of things interesting things you can do while you are there.

#1) Take lots of pictures of dogs to add to your collection.

Of course the most adorable one is the one in the middle! That's my Mici!

Our First Doggie Run *Loot Bag Update*

Pet Express Doggie Run

Last Saturday, March 23, 2013, my sister and I joined the Pet Express Doggie Run 2013 event via invitation of the Nuffnang Team. It was the first time for us to join such an event and I was so excited that even the 4 am wake up call did not deter me from going!

The  Pet Express Doggie Run has been a yearly event now for 3 years already. Already at it's third year, the number of participants has grown from just 500 participants to well over 1000 participants this year.

We got to MOA just in the nick of time for the 5:30am start. Our two dogs Mici - the Lhasa Apso, and Mini - the Mini Pincher, were already hyped and ready to run by the time we got there.  As it was our first time to join, we decided to run the 1.5k. As we got to the starting line, I couldn't help but be amazed at the sheer number of the crowd and the different pooches that were there.

All the while,  I had to stop myself from screaming "Their so fluffy, I think I'm gonna die!!!"

:p

Ready, set, go! We were off. The 1.5k crowd were mostly for the young, old, and small dogs, I was happy to be there as I wanted to take pictures. There were all sorts of dogs running. There were big, small, spotted, furry, black, white, brown, and all the different breeds and pedigrees you can think of. Most had on the bib that came with the racing kit, but there were some fashionistas who had on shoes, and jackets, and even carried bags!

Some ran, others jogged, many walked but what was most amusing to see were the dogs who couldn't run anymore. Like this pair i saw on the left. The owner suddenly stopped in front of me, curious at what he was doing I sneaked a peek to my side. And I was surprised to see that he suddenly picked up his doggie up and simply placed him inside his backpack! :))

Running early that Saturday morning really refreshed us and as we reached the finish line, the rush of finishing the race along with our pets was an awesome experience for us.

I surely would love to join this event again!

A few of my favorite things #5

Ginormous Empanada

A few of my favorite things #5

1.  Banapple Savory Pie

Value for your money. This monstrous delight is sure to fill you up and silence your hunger pangs. It may seem to cost more at Php 75 per pc, but you'll actually get two pies for the price of one as it is big enough to feed two. They have three flavors available: creamy chicken pie, savory tuna pie, and cheese and mushroom pie. *Burp!*

Luneta

LUNETA

I stumbled upon the video above while browsing through my YM news page. Watching this video a smile immediately formed on my lips as I started to reminisce about my past encounters with Roxas Boulevard and it's ever famous Luneta Park, also known as Rizal Park

Back in the day, my mom and dad would often take my brother and I out on mini excursions. I remember Luneta being one of those wonderful places. We would take a short ride from our place in Manila and in less than 30 minutes hop off into a giagantic play area!

We'd be welcomed by tall trees, long stretches of grass, famous monuments, and dinosaurs... yes there were dinosaurs. All around us was a place where we could make adventures, have fun, and frolic under the sun - there were even times the sun would already be down and we'd still be in the park.

My favorite place would be the Dinosaur Playground in the side of the park. There you would find slides and towers shaped in dinosaurs bodies. I would imagine I was in the age of the dinosaurs escaping from the ferocious beasts as I jumped from one tower to the other. My brother and I would race to make it first to the top of the slide and quickly sliding down only to find ourselves in a mad scramble to the top again.

We'd take a break and drink gulaman along with some fishballs or green mango with bagoong. Sometimes it would be ice cream or scramble. The occasional mais would be a treat to eat too. The break doesn't last very long though because as soon as we were done eating the play would once again commence.

Then we'd start to make sandcastles in the grey sand around the Dinosaur Playground using the plastic cups we used while eating and would use spoons and forks found strewn on the floor (sad to say manila's problem with trash has been there for quite some time), of course these were first rinsed with some clean water first before being used.

The swing and the see-saw would be our last stop. I'd be the bully and take longer in the swing and refuse to push off when the see-saw lowered on my side. My brother would then be saved by my dad who would push down his side to even the weight.

*Sigh*

Years and years would pass before I would go back to Luneta. Over the years, safety, cleanliness, and upkeep would deteriorate and the once beautiful park would loose it's appeal. What would bring me back would be a project for work.

Manila Ocean Park opened it's doors behind the Quirino grandstand in March 2008 and the company I worked for at that time had a project inside the oceanarium. Because of this, I would frequent the area and seeing that the park was only a hop and skip away I decided to visit it once again. I was not to be disappointed as walking through the park I had a chance to see the park of my childhood once again in a good light.

Over the years the park has been improved immensely, now boasting an updated look and new attractions, like the fountain light show. Now it is my little sisters turn to romp in the park with dad and playing with our dogs.

Why don't you pay a visit to this heritage site and enjoy one of the few parks we have left in this city?

And to give you more motivation to go visit Luneta, check our this video by Mickey Bustos, our Filipino Ambassador in Youtube. Enjoy!

A Few of My Favorite Things #4

adorable comics about love

1) www.HJ-Story.com

 Love is...

HJ-story.com is filled cute quirky comics about the artist and his girlfriend (now wife). It's usually renditions of their experiences. Their "Love is..." series shows various aspects of his love.. love is patient... very patient... and at times extremely patient. It just shows the funny of what a person in love can and will endure for the object of their affection. I was especially delighted with the Thor comic. :D Check out the site for inspiration. Very relatable ;)

Proverbs 31 Woman

May I seek to be a Proverbs 31 woman. :)
A Wife of Noble Character
10 Who can find a virtuous and capable wife?
She is more precious than rubies.
11 Her husband can trust her,
and she will greatly enrich his life.
12 She brings him good, not harm,
all the days of her life.

13 She finds wool and flax
and busily spins it.
14 She is like a merchant’s ship,
bringing her food from afar.
15 She gets up before dawn to prepare breakfast for her household
and plan the day’s work for her servant girls.

16 She goes to inspect a field and buys it;
with her earnings she plants a vineyard.
17 She is energetic and strong,
a hard worker.
18 She makes sure her dealings are profitable;
her lamp burns late into the night.

19 Her hands are busy spinning thread,
her fingers twisting fiber.
20 She extends a helping hand to the poor
and opens her arms to the needy.
21 She has no fear of winter for her household,
for everyone has warm clothes.

22 She makes her own bedspreads.
She dresses in fine linen and purple gowns.
23 Her husband is well known at the city gates,
where he sits with the other civic leaders.
24 She makes belted linen garments
and sashes to sell to the merchants.

25 She is clothed with strength and dignity,
and she laughs without fear of the future.
26 When she speaks, her words are wise,
and she gives instructions with kindness.
27 She carefully watches everything in her household
and suffers nothing from laziness.

28 Her children stand and bless her.
Her husband praises her:
29 “There are many virtuous and capable women in the world,
but you surpass them all!”

30 Charm is deceptive, and beauty does not last;
but a woman who fears the LORD will be greatly praised.
31 Reward her for all she has done.
Let her deeds publicly declare her praise.

(Proverbs 31: 10 – 31 NLT)
