Robinsons Magnolia Traffic

The long wait...
Ranting...

A few days ago, the family decided to go outside and have dinner together before sending our grandma off to the bus terminal. They decided to eat at Savory in N. Domingo, remembering that there was a Savory inside the Robinson's Magnolia food court I then suggested that we go there instead. We had a good dinner and even shopped a bit since there was a sale on-going. We left around 10:15 PM

The problem started as we headed down toward the basement 2 parking to get into our car. Everyone got in, my dad proceeded to turn on the engine and off we went. But only after a few feet, we had to stop as there was a car in front of us. Little did we know that the stop would last almost 45 minutes.

After the first few minutes we started to look around and saw that there was a long line of cars leading to the exit. We tried to look and see what was keeping the cars from moving. Was there an accident? Did a car break down?

No... it was not the case.

after 10 minutes passed. I got off the car and went to see what the problem was all about. And saw a guard, I asked him what the problem was. He then answered to me that this was a normal thing and that it's even worse on Fridays and the weekends. And knowing this fact, they have not found a solution to the problem or even showed visible attempts to alleviate the situation.

How does that happen? Is it even allowed? Don't they have city engineers look over plans to make sure these things don't happen? What if there was an emergency and people had to leave quickly?

And it was then I realized that, we were stuck in the basement parking of a mall due to traffic. And this was not the first time it's happened, apparently the management are aware of this and are still charging people despite the fact that their basement parking is a traffic trap.

Robinson's Magnolia boasts a parking capacity of more than 1,000 cars. But apparently their exit is not designed for the scenario of the cars trying to leave the place all at the same time.

Going up the ramp after the 45 minute ordeal we saw the problem. The exit was situated right at the top of the ramp. And there was only one exit. There were attendants stationed at the exits but they weren't really helping. They were standing in place in the entrance collecting money and unsuccessfully trafficking the bottleneck.

My suggestion would be to change the system, it apparently doesn't work. What's more shocking is that they have the gall to charge you for the poor system they have. Yes, the mall parking has a rate charge of P45 after you've exceeded a certain time period.

I used to think that Robinsons Magnolia would be my go to hang out, bu now I would think twice about bringing a car here.

Really now, you expect me to pay for being stuck in your basement for more than half an hour when it was clearly not our choice to do so. That is just appalling, insulting, and taking advantage of your customers. With the horrible parking service and poor planning I wouldn't feel safe and secure leaving my car in their parking lot. Fix your system before you charge.

Not acceptable.

To you readers, my advice is not to park in the basement 2 of the mall parking and do not leave the hour before and after closing.

Hopefully the management  have made the necessary steps to improve this that no other person has to endure traffic inside the basement parking anymore.

Nearing the exit, finally I see the light at the end of the tunnel.
Have you encountered a similar incident? Care to share?

*Update: Jan 4, 2012 - I've been to Rob Magnolia quite a few times already and am pleased to say that they have definitely improved their system. :D
